OUSD students connect through UNITY DAY Youth Together peace program

Students at Skyline High School in Oakland capped a Unity Week program with the non-profit Youth Together with a special Unity Day event on Thursday. The goal of the annual event is to help students connect and promote peace and understanding of similarities and commonalities across racial, ethnic, gender, language and other differences in background. Youth Together was founded in 1996 in response to a spate of violent school incidents in Oakland and Richmond. Students shared thoughts on workshops that touched on some deep issues of intergenerational trauma, cycles of violence, teen pregnancy and other topics they face.
