The great Bay Area temperature divide
Wednesday: Widespread onshore sea breezes will keep the immediate Pacific Coast cool to pleasant in the low 60s to near 70°F Bayside (like Oakland and Downtown SF) in the mid-70s to low 80s, while the inland valleys drop back to an average of 92°F to 97°F. Morning Commute Fog and Drizzle. A robust marine layer will push thick fog deep into the inland valleys overnight. Expect a round of damp coastal mist and patchy drizzle late tonight into early Wednesday morning, which could leave coastal adjacent highways slightly slick for early commuters. Low clouds will linger along the immediate beaches for most of the day, but inland valleys and bayside runways will mix out cleanly. Massive temperature contrasts between the cold 60-degree ocean water and the baking 97-degree inland valleys will reactivate the winds. Expect breezy to gusty onshore winds to ramp up by mid-afternoon, delivering cool gusts of 20 to 30 mph through the Altamont Pass, San Bruno Gap, and Salinas Valley before easing after sunset.
