Freeze warning in effect for much of Bay Area

OAKLAND (KTVU) -- A freeze warning was in effect overnight for much of the Bay Area as a cold snap grips the region, several hours after a strong storm soaked the region.

KTVU chief meteorologist Bill Martin said the precipitation has exited the area but residents will need to bundle up.

"It's getting cooler and drier," he said. "A freeze warning is in effect for most of the Bay Area.

The freeze warning including several areas, including the North Bay interior valleys, Santa Cruz mountains, San Jose and the Santa Clara Valley. A frost advisory was in effect for San Francisco, coastal regions of the North Bay and the coast of the San Francisco Peninsula. >>>>>For a full list of advisories, click here.

The cold weather follows several inches of rain that soaked the Bay area on Thursday.

Downtown San Francisco reported 1.28 inches of rain while Healdsburg reported 3.73 inches of precipitation. Residents in San Rafael saw 4.22 inches of rain and Venado, Geuerneville saw 7.16 inches of rain.

Martin said Thursday's "significant rainfall" has given way to overnight low temperatures that will be below freezing for much of the Bay Area.

The high temperature on Saturday will range in the upper 40s to low 50s while the low temps on Saturday night will also fall below the freezing mark for much of the region.
