A 10-year-old girl was critically injured today in a hit and run collision in East Oakland.

Oakland police say they responded to the 800 block of E. 15th Street at 1:29 p.m.  Officers located a minor upon arriving who had suffered major injuries. The victim was transported to the hospital after emergency medical services provided medical attention.

Police had learned that it was a hit and run through an update. At around the same time another vehicle collision was reported at the 400 block of Foothill Boulevard. The vehicle in that incident appeared to be related to the hit and run incident.

Officers arrested a suspect based on a preliminary investigation. An adult female was taken into custody.

At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. It does appear that speed was a factor in this collision.

KTVU has learned the victim is a student at Franklin Elementary.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Oakland Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit at (510) 777-8570.
