2 children safe after hours-long standoff in Concord, suspect in custody

An hours-long standoff in Concord involving two children ended with an arrest on Tuesday, according to police.

Officers were called to an apartment in the 1700 block of Ellis St. after two minors reported they were being held against their well.

Authorities say the suspect is the father of one of the kids who was held inside the apartment.

Concord police said it was reported the man was armed with a gun and machete and threatened to kill the juveniles.

The children were eventually able to run out of the apartment to the safety of officers.

The suspect, later identified as Alejandro Becerra, refused to come out.

A SWAT team was called to the scene and after five hours of negotiations, Becerra exited the residence and surrendered peacefully.

He was arrested without further incident and the minors were not physically harmed, officers say.
