Fremont firefighters responded to the scene of a construction accident Wednesday morning where a 20-foot rebar tower fell on some workers.

One patient was in critical condition and two patients were in moderate condition, firefighters tweeted, and were taken to local trauma centers.

The accident was reported about 9:30 a.m. on Durham Road.

California Occupational Safety and Health Administration spokesman Frank Polizzi said the employer is Queens Land Builder Inc. and that his agency has opened an investigation.

In the last five years, the Fremont-based company has one other accident on record with Cal-OSHA, records show. That accident was reported on June 19 at 2501 Corack in Fremont, and the case is still open.
