2nd fatal Friday night crash reported on separate San Jose freeways

A second fatal collision has occurred in San Jose Friday night, blocking northbound U.S. Highway 101 just north of Bernal Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Initial reports indicate the collision occurred on Highway 101 around 8:30 p.m. shortly after calls began coming in reporting a wrong-way driver in the center divider of the freeway, according to the CHP.

All northbound lanes are blocked, and drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

The collision is the second fatality on San Jose freeways this evening.

A previous fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle was reported at 6:47 p.m. on the ramp connecting northbound Interstate Highway 280 to state Highway 17 and Interstate Highway 880, according to the CHP.

The collision blocked the connector ramp but all lanes reopened by shortly after 9 p.m., the CHP said.
