4 arrested after Milpitas gun store burglary foiled

Milpitas Police arrested 4 people after a foiled burglary and standoff at a gun range right next door to their department headquarters early Wednesday morning.

The incident unfolded at the Target Masters West gun shop and shooting range on Minnis Circle.

Police detained 3 suspects outside the store shortly after the burglary was first reported around 2:00 a.m.

A fourth suspect was cornered inside the store and forced police into a standoff, which ended around 5:30 a.m.

The gun store and shooting range is right next door to the Milpitas Police Department on Milpitas Boulevard and the incident was actually first reported by a police sergeant who heard the store's burglar alarm after leaving the station to start his shift.

That officer saw a vehicle leaving that location and detained its two occupants.

Investigators believe the group was trying to steal guns from the store.

At this point it's not clear if any guns were actually taken from the store or if there were any other suspects involved.
