Ellis was originally accused of robbing or trying to rob 15 banks. Surveillance showed him with a full beard.

But when he walked out of a Safeway store in Brentwood in March, his head and beard were shaved off, leaving only a goatee.

Ellis was spotted by a KTVU viewer who wished to be identified only as James.

"I noticed a guy walking out and I said to myself, 'God, that looks just like the bearded bank robber that I've seen on Channel 2 News," James said.

Ellis was named in a court document known as an information, which in federal court typically signals that a defendant intends to plead guilty to at least one of the counts.

DALY CITY BANK ROBBER: A transient has pleaded no contest to robbing a Daly City bank during which he handed a teller a demand note with a derogatory term.

Nadeem Kaher Deisieh entered his plea Friday in San Mateo County Superior Court.

He admitted that he walked into the First National Bank on Mission Street in Daly City about 9:30 a.m. May 18 and handed a teller a note that read, "Give me all the hundreds. Not the exploding dye pack, b- "

The teller complied and gave Deisieh $2,100.

Ten days after the holdup, Deisieh turned himself in to a security guard at the Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton. None of the stolen money was recovered.

Deisieh faces up to two years in state prison when he is sentenced Oct. 21. He remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail.

BURGLARY SUSPECT CALLS HIMSELF 'FIEND':

A Pacifica burglary suspect had some pretty choice words for himself after he was caught: "I'm a dope fiend," prosecutors say.

It all started about 4:50 a.m. May 28 when Trevor Jodsaas allegedly broke into a home in Pacifica. The woman who lives at the home was awakened by the commotion, roused her husband and called 911, authorities said.

The husband went to the front door and tried to scare the intruder away by shouting, falsely, that he had a gun, said San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

Jodsaas then smashed through the front door and attacked the husband, police said. During the melee, the husband managed to subdue Jodsaas but suffered a torn hamstring, nose fractures and two black eyes, authorities said.

Police arrived and took Jodsaas into custody. Officers found a small amount of heroin and two oxycodone pills on him, investigators said. When officers asked Jodsaas why he allegedly did what he did, he responded, "Shenanigans - I'm a dope fiend," according to prosecutors.
