Guerneville cleans up mudslides
Heavy rains on Tuesday causes mudslides in Guerneville and one home to fall into the Russian River.
GUERNEVILLE, Calif. - Another school district in Sonoma County was closed for Wednesday due to flooding, while cities like Guerneville had to clean up the landslides and mudslides that inundated the region because of the heavy storms.
The Alexander Valley Union School District is dealing with a lack of electricity and limited access to roads due to floodwaters, according to the Sonoma County Office of Education.
All schools in the Guerneville, West Sonoma County Union and Monte Rio Union school districts and Kashia Elementary were closed on Tuesday due to flooding, with some experiencing mudslides in their area.
Neely Road near Highway 116 next to the Russian River in Guerneville on Wednesday was completely blocked and impassable.
Joshua Young evacuated his mobile home park on Tuesday, returning to his home Wednesday morning to see his lot submerged under water.
"It's stressful," he said. "It wears on you. It takes all the luster out of this place."
There were problems up and down the Russian River on Tuesday including a dramatic scene in nearby Forestville, where a home on a cliff slid down into the mud into the river.
The home was empty and no one was hurt.
Sonoma County issued an evacuation order for homes near the river from Healdsburg to Jenner, which was still in effect on Wednesday morning.
