Art guerrillas strike again: Indecline paints 'Dear immigrants' mural in Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif. - The art guerrillas have struck again.
But this time, instead of vandalizing a property, the left-wing activists from the anonymous group, Indecline, painted over an abandoned building with the owner's permission unlike what they did last week -- shimmying up a ladder to alter a billboard in Emeryville with the words, "We make kids disappear," in a dig to President Trump's temporary separation of migrant families.
Instead, this time, about five Indecline activists had the owner's permission to paint the words, "Dear immigrants, without U there is not U.S." on an abandoned building at 15th and Harrison streets in Oakland.
"It was like a little block party," an Indecline spokesman, an Oakland resident in his 30s, told KTVU. "The owners said, 'have at it.'"
He said it's rare for his group to have permission to wield their paint cans and brushes. "We definitely operate under the cover of darkness," he said, "but sometimes it's nice to do legitimate stuff as well."
