A Benicia High school teacher and student have been arrested in connection to two recent car break-ins.

Benicia police say the 17-year-old student had been seen several times leaving campus during the school day and going to the teacher's car.

Officers found marijuana in the form of edibles inside the car, along with items stolen from two car burglaries last month.

The teacher, 23-year-old Riana Lane, admitted the marijuana belonged to her and said she gave the student the keys to her car.

The student also allegedly admitted to stealing the items found in Lane's car.

Lane was arrested and cited for misdemeanor possession of stolen property and possessing marijuana at a school.

The teen faces a petty theft charge and was released to his parents. His name will not be released due to his age.
