With more snow falling in the Sierra, it's being called the best start to the ski season in 11 years.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the area until 7 a.m. Tuesday with another foot of snow possible.

Boreal Mountain Resort enjoyed its best opening weekend in more than a decade.

"Since 2004 we have not had an opening day where we've opened all the way to the top, and we were able to accomplish that this year with top to bottom skiing all weekend long. And that was from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.," said Tucker Norred with Boreal Mountain Resort.

The new snow is bringing out the best in boarders like Shane Leonard.

"Conditions for the snow that we have is pretty good - snow is a little hard but it's good," said Leonard.

The storm is also attracting visitors who simply enjoy the scenery.

"Oh I love it. I haven't seen snow this year so it's exciting it just came all at once," said Sabrina Skwarek of Santa Cruz.

Meanwhile on the roadways it's a different story.

Anyone planning on heading up to the Sierra should bring their chains.

Chains are required on Interstate 80 in Placer County to the Donner Lake Exchange.

Highway 50 also has chain requirements from Twin Bridges to Meyers in El Dorado County.

KTVU meteorologist Steve Paulson says he also expects snow to fall on Bay Area peaks Monday.
