LOS FELIZ, Calif. - An East Bay bagel shop once highlighted by the New York Times in a story asserting the best bagels are in California, not New York, is making its foray into Southern California.
Boichik Bagels, the popular Berkeley shop with several locations in the Bay Area, is opening Monday in Los Feliz.
On Instagram earlier this week, the business shared that it passed final inspections and was set to open the location on Feb. 10.
The newest location will be located at 4655 Hollywood Boulevard and will open at 7:30 a.m. on Monday
Bay Area expansion
The backstory:
The Bay Area business opened its first store in 2019 on College Avenue in Berkeley.
It's since expanded to Larkspur, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, San Francisco and Los Gatos. The business has three San Francisco locations, in the Financial District, Fillmore and Presidio Heights.
In 2021, the New York Times turned heads when it declared the best bagels were actually in California, specifically the Bay Area and LA.
The food critic said at the time that West Coast bakers were driving the great bagel boom.
