Brisbane mother struck by alleged DUI driver while standing with her daughter
BRISBANE, Calif. - A mother is in serious condition after suffering from critical injuries when she was struck by a driver allegedly under the influence on Friday in Brisbane, police said.
The collision occurred outside Midtown Market on Visitacion Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. The mother was standing by her car with her 4-year-old daughter nearby on the roadway.
The driver, only described as a 71-year-old man, struck the mother, who was taken to a hospital. The daughter only suffered minor physical injuries, Brisbane police said.
According to Brisbane police, those nearby closed the side of the road where the crash occurred and shielded the daughter from witnessing her mother's injuries.
"We are deeply thankful for the selflessness and courage shown by the members of our community," Police Chief Lisa Macias said. "Their quick thinking helped prevent further harm and provided comfort to the child during a traumatic moment."
The driver was arrested Saturday morning and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility, facing driving under the influence causing injury charges.
What we don't know:
Police did not identify the suspect driver. Additionally, it's unclear if the driver stayed at the scene and was later arrested or fled the scene and arrested afterwards.
The moither's current condition is also unknown at this time.
