Calistoga fire conditions improving but mandatory evacuations still in effect

While Calistoga fire conditions have improved overnight, city officials are cautioning residents that the mandatory evacuation order for the city remains in effect.

City officials noted that the Tubbs fire threatening the city is now 44 percent contained, a positive development. Cal Fire continues applying significant resources to the fire, including air support, engines, (bulldozers) and firefighters.

Today's priority is to improve containment lines between the Tubbs fire and the City of Calistoga, according to Cal Fire.

While winds and wind bursts, one of the biggest dangers in a possible spread of the fire, are forecast throughout the day, they are expected to die down this afternoon, city officials said.

Cal Fire will determine when it is safe for Calistoga residents to return to their homes, city officials said.
