CHP says road rage led to latest I-580 shooting

OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - The California Highway Patrol says it was a road-rage incident that led to a freeway shooting on eastbound I-580 Monday afternoon in Oakland. 

CHP are seeking the public's help in searching for a suspect. 

Investigators said no one was injured in the shooting that happened at around 1 p.m., but it did shut down all eastbound lanes shortly before 3 p.m. until around 3:40 p.m.

CHP said the driver of the victim vehicle, a Honda, admitted to tailgating the suspect vehicle, a black four-door Mercedes. 

The victim vehicle tried to pass the Mercedes and a rude hand gesture was made to the suspect, according to investigators. CHP said the driver of the Mercedes accelerated alongside the Honda within the center median portion of the freeway. 

The suspect vehicle was then said to have fired into the victim's vehicle, hitting it several times. 

The driver of the Mercedes was only described as a black male adult. The suspect vehicle was missing its rear license plate. CHP said the front license plate was tucked between the dashboard and the front windshield.
