A 38-year-old man died in his apartment Wednesday when fire broke out in his unit on the 6500 block of Shattuck Ave.
OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - A Christmas tree may have caused a fatal fire in Oakland Wednesday evening.
The fire happened around 6:30 p.m. on the 6500 block of Shattuck Avenue.
A 38-year-old man died in his apartment after smoke overtook his second-floor unit.
Investigators said when crews arrived, they found no active flames, but plenty of smoke coming from the man's Christmas tree.
Nearby units were not affected.
