Civic Center BART evacuated after fire on platform
SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - Civic Center BART Station in San Francisco was evacuated Friday evening due to smoke and fire on the platform level, according to San Francisco Fire Department. The fire has been extinguished and the station reopened, officials said.
The cause of the fire appears to have been a cigarette discarded on accident, fire officials said on Twitter.
Earlier, the fire department asked for media to cooperate and alert the public, but said there were no injuries and that the fire did not appear to be suspicious or "nefarious." It is however, under investigation.
"We are hitting hot spots and smoking debris at this time. Lots of smoke in the tunnel and station." SF Fire Department PIO wrote at 7:12 p.m.
Expect BART delays and traffic.
The station between United Nations Plaza and 8th Street is near where part of this weekend's Pride festivities will be held.
This is a breaking news story.
