A large sinkhole in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights caved in as crews were working to repair it.

What began as a small depression in the road on Sacramento and Lyon turned into a very large crater.

Skyfox was overhead shortly after the street gave way around 8:30 Thursday morning.

Curious neighbors who came out to see what all the commotion was about say the hole seems to be getting bigger, but no one expected the ground to give way when it did.

"Well there was a sinkhole that started this morning and cars were hitting it on their way to work and you heard a big bang. In any event, somebody called in about 8:30 this morning,” said Alison Whiteside, a nearby resident. As she was being interviewed a piece of equipment fell into the sinkhole.

Crews will leave the sinkhole as it is overnight with protective barriers and plan to continue with the repairs in the morning.

Some residents can’t get in our out of their garages because the giant hole has them trapped.
