Deadly car crash in San Jose possibly caused by driving too fast

CHP is investigating a deadly car crash in San Jose that may have been caused by a driver going too fast.

The accident occurred just off of Southbound Highway 101 in San Jose.

Other drivers called CHP saying that a white car was going very fast and got off the freeway at Blossom Hill Road.

When investigators arrived, they found the car slammed into a tree. As they were working near the car, the tree fell onto the car.

No officers were hurt, but they could see that the man in the car was dead.

Sergeant Daniel Hill with CHP says, "Preliminary investigation shows the gentleman was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed. Witnesses place him at between 80 and 95 miles per hour when he left the roadway. We don't see any evidence that he braked before he collided with the tree".

The CHP has not been able to identify the driver.

Investigators have to wait for the tree to be removed from the car before they can look for a wallet or car registration that could help them.
