Driver who injured passengers in high-speed Bayview crash surrenders to police

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - Police say a 19-year-old driver has surrendered herself to police at San Francisco's Bayview Station Friday, following a high-speed crash early Thursday morning that split a car in two and injured four passengers.

SFPD said Lynjae Vines was booked for felony hit-and-run in the solo vehicle crash that took out a fire hydrant at the intersection of Third Street and Carroll Avenue at around 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

By the time police arrived at the scene of the accident, the driver had fled. All four passengers sustained varying injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment, according to police.

San Francisco police said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, although the cause has not yet been determined.

The silver Mazda sedan struck a fire hydrant, which resulted in the front end of the vehicle detaching from the rest of the vehicle.

The passengers in the vehicle were an 11-year-old female, a 17-year-old female, a 14-year-old female and a 19-year-old male. The 11-year-old suffered broken bones in the accident, the other three suffered minor injuries.

While an arrest has been made, police said the investigation is ongoing.
