Investigators say that the blaze was reported around 4:00a.m. on the 1500 block of Oak Street just north of Highway 92 in San Mateo.

Some witnesses recorded the flames on their phones and said they could be seen leaping 20 feet into the air.

Fire crews upgraded their response to 3-alarms over concern that the fire may spread to neighboring homes, however crews were able to contain the blaze to just one house.

After containing the blaze, crews discovered that one person inside the home was killed by the fire.

Neighbors say the victim was a woman, but investigators have not confirmed any details about the victim.
