Golden Gate Bridge suicide net plan approved

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - The plan to extend the suicide barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge has been approved.
The Bridge District awarded the contract to Oakland-based Shimmick Construction.
The $142 million bid was nearly double the amount of earlier estimates.
A stainless steel net will be installed 20 feet below the sidewalk and the will extend out 20 feet.
The project is set to begin next year and is expected to be finished by 2021.
