Gravel spill, big rig fire prompt delays on Highway 580
DUBLIN, Calif. (BCN) - A gravel spill in Dublin followed by a big rig fire in Livermore prompted major delays along I-580 on Tuesday morning.
The big rig fire was reported just after 5 a.m.
Earlier in the morning, three lanes of westbound Interstate Highway 580 reopened in Dublin, after gravel spilled onto the highway late Monday night.
Around 11:39 p.m., the California Highway Patrol first received a report of the gravel spill on the highway, near the Dougherty Road exit, according to CHP officials.
At 3:16 p.m., Caltrans closed two of the highway's westbound lanes, as crews waited for a front loader truck to arrive to remove the gravel, CHP officials said.
At 4:46 a.m., the CHP issued a Sig-alert, closing three of the highway's lanes, according to the CHP. At the time, the CHP estimated the lanes would be closed for about two hours.
The lanes reopened at about 6 a.m.
