Henry Lee's Rap Sheet for Nov. 23, 2015
(KTVU) - Here's the Rap Sheet for Nov. 23, 2015:
WILD CHASE IN BERKELEY: Pretty chaotic chase in Berkeley late Monday night, and one of the suspects was reportedly pregnant.
The case began about 8:35 p.m. when two females in an Acura reported stolen from Oakland crashed into another car at Adeline and Fairview streets, said Officer Byron White, a Berkeley police spokesman.
It didn't seem like anyone was hurt, but it was serious enough for one car to lose a bumper. Some neighbors reported that the two cars had been playing "chicken."
A Berkeley police officer spotted the Acura at Fairview and California streets and tried to pull her over, but the woman refused to stop and went north on Adeline in a southbound lane, authorities said.
Shortly thereafter, she hit a bicyclist at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Prince Street across from the Ashby BART Station and fled the scene at high speed before leading the cops on a circuitous chase, police said. The bicyclist suffered a leg injury but was expected to survive.
The suspect went the wrong way on Sacramento Street -- south in a northbound lane -- before the two jumped out of the car at Russell and Stanton streets.
At one point, a sergeant reported on the air, "We've got two at a disadvantage," an apparent reference to police closing in on the suspects.
During the chaos, the suspects left the engine running, and a small fire broke out, authorities said. And police said one of the suspects -- it was unclear if it was the woman driving -- was pregnant, and so she had to be checked out too.
LOS ALTOS COPS NEED HELP: Know this guy? Police say he's responsible for at least three early-morning commercial burglaries in Los Altos.
The break-ins happened between midnight and 1 a.m. on Nov. 15. He is described as a man in his 20s, with a mustache/goatee and thick sideburns, with hair pulled back into a small ponytail. A second man was also present at the break-ins, but police did not say if that person was already identified or in custody.
You can video of both suspects here.
ALERT CITIZEN HELPS CHP NAB SUSPECT: A California Highway Patrol officer got some help -- twice -- from a citizen over the weekend in connection with another wild chase.
About 3 p.m. Saturday, the officer spotted a Chevrolet Tahoe speeding at 83mph on southbound Highway 101 near Pepper Road in Petaluma and tried to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop.
The suspect led the CHP on a high-speed chase before losing control on McBrown Road and crashing into a fence and a tree, said CHP Officer Jonathan Sloat. The driver, Eduardo Hernandez, 22, of Rohnert Park, was trapped inside because of damage to his door and was quickly arrested.
A passenger fled and wasn't caught immediately despite an intense search by a phalanx of officers from the CHP, Petaluma police and Sonoma County sheriff's deputies.
Homeowners were asked to be on the lookout, and a citizen reported finding what turned out to be Hernandez's brother, Rolando Hernandez, 24, of Rohnert Park, hiding beneath the floorboards of a barn, Sloat said.
The citizen ordered the suspect off his property, and the man tried to flee but was detained by the homeowner, who called CHP to arrest him, Sloat said.
The next day, the same citizen reported finding a jacket left behind by Rolando Hernandez that contained two bags of methamphetamine, Sloat said.
