Hyundai is recalling 135,386 vehicles that could short circuit during a crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explained in a recall report that the B+ positive terminal cover on the starter motor in the recalled cars might not be installed correctly, and this can result in an electrical short during a crash, which may boost the risk of damage or fire.

Hyundai estimates roughly 1% of eligible vehicles are impacted by improperly installed covers, the NHTSA report stated.
Which Hyundai cars are being recalled?
Why you should care:
The recall covers certain model 2024-2025 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles manufactured between Dec. 28, 2023, and July 7, 2025, according to the NHTSA recall report.
The report noted that Hyundai was aware of one report filed in November 2024 that confirmed signs of a thermal vent, like an electrical short, and no accidents, injuries or deaths have been connected to the recall.
Can owners of the recalled cars get it repaired?
What you can do:
Owners of the vehicles will receive notice letters by mail beginning in December on how to bring their car to a Hyundai dealership for inspection and reinstallation of the terminal cover, if needed.
Dealerships will conduct the reinstallation for free, and Hyundai will also provide owners with reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses incurred to get the reinstallation, according to the recall report.
