I-80 onramp reopens after Richmond big-rig accident

RICHMOND, Calif. - An Interstate Highway 80 onramp in Richmond has been reopened Friday morning after handling the result of a big-rig crash proved difficult, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The Highway 80 westbound onramp at Carlson Boulevard was closed after a big-rig overturned, according to the CHP. The crash, which had no injuries associated with it, was reported just before 1 a.m.
The big-rig was full of hay, which mixed with wreckage in a roadway mess requiring an extensive cleanup effort, CHP officials said.
CHP issued a travel advisory around 2:36 a.m., and initially expected the onramp to remain closed while crews cleared the debris until around 7:30 a.m. or even until 1 p.m.
The vehicle's weight also posed problems in getting the big-rig upright; once it was flipped off its side it immediately tipped back over again, CHP officials said.
Tow vehicles were called in to move the big-rig to unblock the onramp, according to the CHP.
The onramp was then reopened at 10:30 a.m.
