Man, 8-year-old boy die after Half Moon Bay water rescue: park officials
HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - A 39-year-old man and an 8-year-old boy who were initially rescued at Cowell Ranch Beach in Half Moon Bay have died, state park officials said Monday.
The pair were originally found in the ocean Sunday afternoon and taken aboard a Harbor Patrol Vessel and taken to Stanford Medical Center, according to California State Park spokesman Jorge Moreno.
But both ended up dying, he said.
"We extend our deepest sympathy to the family for this devastating loss," Morena wrote in an email.
Cal Fire said the ocean is extremely dangerous and can be unpredictable, and advised people to be careful while visiting beaches.
Sneaker wave warnings are expected to be in place through 7 p.m. Monday.
