Child pulled from ocean in water rescue near Half Moon Bay

Rescue crews retrieved a boy and a 39-year-old man from the ocean in Half Moon Bay Sunday afternoon, officials said.

Both the boy and man are being hospitalized. The man was transported by ambulance while the boy was life-flighted by a CHP helicopter from Cowell State Beach, according to Cal Fire.

Why you should care:

Cal Fire said the ocean is extremely dangerous and can be unpredictable, and advised people to be careful while visiting beaches.

Beach hazards are currently in place for all beaches alongside the Pacific Coast. Sneaker waves are unexpectedly run farther up the beach than normal, including rocks and jetties.

Currents are expected to be stronger than normal in these conditions. The hazards are expected to be in place through 7 p.m. Monday.

What we don't know:

Their condition is currently unknown. Officials did not share the age of the child. It's also unclear if the pair are related and if they were caught in a sneaker wave.
