A Newark man has been charged for assault with intent to rape, attempted kidnapping and possession of child pornography after assaulting a woman with a stun gun.

Police responded March 26 around 7:20 a.m. to the report of a 911 call from a woman who reported an assault.

The woman said she was assaulted by a man as she walked from her Walnut Creek home in the 2000 block of Camel Lane to her vehicle. She fought off the man, and he left the scene in a silver Volkswagen sedan.

Later that day a Good Samaritan noticed some suspicious items that had been discarded in Fremont and called police. The items included plans to kidnap and assault multiple female victims.

Police connected the items to the assault in Walnut Creek, and identified Matt Owen Caruso as a suspect in the case.

Police also identified additional intended victims.

Caruso was arrested the following day in Newark and booked into Contra Costa County Jail.

When police searched his home they found multiple firearms and child pornography.
Caruso is being held on $1,110,000 bail.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Walnut Creek Police Detective G. Leonard or Detective G. Ezard at 925-943-5844.
