SANTA ROSA, Calif. - The Sacramento County coroner's office today confirmed the death of a Santa Rosa man who was burned in last month's Tubbs Fire.
Michael Azarian, 41, died around 5 a.m. Sunday at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. The cause of death was extensive burn injuries, a coroner's office spokeswoman said.
Azarian's friend, Khachik Papanyan, tells KQED radio that Azarian was an engineer who loved photography and hiking and had moved to Santa Rosa two years ago for a new job.
Azarian's death is the 44th from the wildfires in Northern California last month. Twenty-four of the deaths were in Sonoma County.
