If you'd love to add a furry friend to your household more than 300 animals will be available today at the East Bay SPCA Adopt-A-Thon in Oakland.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jack London Square, a short walk from the 12th Street BART station. More than 30 rescue groups and shelters will offer their canine, feline, reptilian and other animals for adoption.

"Our goal is to help these animals find their forever homes and make matches with people who want to make additions to their families," said Kimberly Low, a spokeswoman for the East Bay SPCA.

Adult animals as well as younger critters will be up for adoption at the event, Low said. In most cases, those who attend can bring their newfound friends home with them today, she said. Fees vary according to the shelter or rescue organization.
