Muckfest raises money for Multiple Sclerosis

Participants weren't afraid to get dirty at this year's Muckfest in Vallejo Sunday morning.

More than 2,000 people trekked through a 5K course at the Solano County Fairgrounds, with mud-drenched obstacles along the way.

The event raises money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The money helps pay for research and support services for people struggling with the disease.

It's a cause many participants have a personal connection to. One young woman told us she's running for her mom who was diagnosed with MS 35 years ago.

"She's just really fought this disease, and tried really hard," Meg Peterson, from Petaluma, said, "She's so inspiring. If she can do this, and everyone else who's affected by MS can do this, we've gotta do all we can to help".

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that disable the nervous system. Most of the people diagnosed are women between the ages of 20 and 50 years old.

Scientists don't yet know what exactly causes the disease- and there's no cure.

Last year's Muckfest raised more than $200,000 for the Northern California chapter of the National MS Society.
