New video of SF police chase - parklet crash that injured 7, suspects arrested

We are learning more about the police pursuit and crash in San Francisco that sent seven people to the hospital on Sunday.

As of Monday, one patient is still in the hospital and six others have been released. Two of the suspects from the vehicle that sent them to the hospital are now in custody.

New video shows the moment a silver Audi SUV slammed into a packed parklet on Super Bowl Sunday.

The crash happened shortly before kickoff at the Napper Tandy in San Francisco's Mission District. Owner Marissa McGarr said there was a violent jolt when the collision occurred.

"Oh actually I thought it was an earthquake or something like that," said McGarr. "Yeah I did, just a big bang and smoke."

Video shot by a bystander moments after the impact shows some of the chaos. McGarr said everyone at the bar sprang into action. "Checking under the car, making sure no one was under the car," said McGarr. "That's the first thing you do. Lifting things up, checking on people, there's debris everywhere. So a little chaotic, I'm not going to lie."

Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital said it treated seven patients in all, the youngest just seven years old.

One adult remains in serious condition.

San Francisco firefighters said crews raced to clear the victims from the wreckage of the parklet.

"There's the weight of the lumber itself, and whatever else was in there, whether there was heat lamps, you have also the tables and chairs," said Mariano Elias from SFFD. "So, moving all that creating space to access people adds to the difficulty."

Police are now confirming they arrested two women following the pursuit, 32-year-old Taylor Ross of San Francisco, and 29-year-old Eureeka Abrams from Bay Point. Police say the pair were driving the silver SUV that had been reported stolen out of Richmond.

Officers say they spotted the vehicle near the Stonestown Gallaria at about 3:05 p.m. and began pursuing the vehicle. The collision came about 25 minutes later when that SUV crashed into the parklet in the Mission District close to 3:30 p.m.

In March of last year, San Francisco voters approved Proposition E, allowing greater discretion for officers to pursue felony or violent suspects.

Mission District Supervisor Jackie Fielder was on scene Sunday and said she wants to learn more about the underlying reason for the chase. "It was something less than an imminent threat to someone's life, I think its worth asking if it's worth it sending six people to the hospital."

KTVU has reached out to the San Francisco District Attorney's office looking for a date when the suspects will be formally charged. At this point, we don't have a date when the suspects will appear in court.
