Oakland man accused of murdering grandmother over money, police say

The search for a missing woman out of Oakland has turned into a homicide investigation and the victim's grandson has been charged with her murder, according to Oakland police. 

Theola Polk, 71, was last seen on July 6 at her home in the 1100 block of 64th Avenue. 

The victim was considered at risk due to suffering from high blood pressure and other medical conditions. 

Investigators combed the areas close to her residence, as well as railroad tracks and landfills for clues in her disappearance. 

The in depth-investigation which included several witness interviews and evidence, led detectives to the victim's grandson. 

Maurice Washington Jr., 33 of Oakland, was initially arrested on July 12 for an unrelated charge. 

After interviews with investigators, Washington was arrested again and charged with murder-special circumstances killing for financial gain.
