Lucas Valley Road from Big Rock to Westgate Drive just northwest of San Rafael is now expected to be closed well into the Monday morning commute after a tanker truck overturned Sunday morning, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said late Sunday afternoon.

The gasoline tanker big-rig overturned shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday on a sharp turn on the roadway on which vehicles over 36 feet long are not allowed.

About 200 gallons of fuel is believed to have leaked from the tanker trailer, and about 6,700 gallons remained in the tanker.

Multiple agencies are working on logistics to off-load the remaining 6,700 gallons safely before the wreckage can be removed and the roadway can re-open, the sheriff's office said.

The closure covers not only motor vehicles but bicyclists and pedestrians, as well, the sheriff's office said.
