Pittsburg: Driver fleeing wrong way on Hwy 4 arrested after crash
PITTSBURG, Calif. (BCN) - A suspect in a stolen Cadillac crashed while fleeing Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies the wrong way on state Highway 4 in Pittsburg this afternoon, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
Sheriff's deputies started chasing the white Cadillac on westbound Highway 4 near Railroad Avenue shortly before 3 p.m., according to CHP Officer Brandon Correia.
The deputies called the CHP to assist in the pursuit. The Cadillac driver then got off the highway at Railroad and then got on the highway again in the eastbound lanes but driving the wrong direction at 90 mph, Correia said.
CHP officers monitored the car from the westbound lanes and using a helicopter. While going the wrong way, the Cadillac crashed into two cars and a motorcycle.
Eventually the driver crashed into the highway's concrete center divider near San Marco Boulevard. The driver and an occupant got out and ran.
They tried to carjack another driver but were unsuccessful and deputies arrested them both.
Correia said there were no serious injuries in the crashes. The motorcycle rider suffered minor injuries but was treated on scene and did not require hospitalization.
Traffic is disrupted in the area while the CHP investigates. The names of the two suspects were not immediately released. Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee was unable to provide further details.
