Oakland police find body near vehicle fire

Oakland police on Monday said they are investigating the death of a person who was found near or possibly in a vehicle fire.

In a short statement, police said they found the body about 3:30 a.m. in the 3400 block of Wood Street.

When they got there, firefighters were putting out a vehicle fire and found the dead person at the scene. 

Firefighters have opened an arson investigation, police said, and police from the homicide unit have also been assigned to the case.
