Police search for driver involved in deadly hit-and-run crash in Concord

Concord Police are looking for a driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.

Officers said that a motorcyclist was headed east on Concord Blvd. near Lodato Way just before 12:30 a.m. when the biker tried to pass a Prius in the same lane. The biker then collided into the side of the car and was ejected into the westbound lane. A dark-colored pickup truck then ran over the biker and continued driving.

The biker was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

"I thought somebody just got in a little fender bender or something, and then I come out here and there's a guy laying in the middle of the street," said one neighbor near the scene of the crash.

Officers said the driver of the Prius remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

"I could see the bike in the yard. Dense pieces were everywhere, and I could see the people over in the middle of the street. I knew right away, as soon as I looked at the gentleman in the street, it was pretty apparent he wasn't moving. He wasn't breathing," said neighbor Jeff Rodgers.

The road was reopened after approximately three hours.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Concord Police at (925) 671-5880.
