Prayer service for teen killed in car accident on way to San Mateo high school

A vigil will be held Wednesday morning in memory of a Junipero Serra High School student who died in a crash on his way to school this week.

The California Highway Patrol says 17-year-old Blake Bottarini left for school from La Honda on Monday morning in his red Toyota Tacoma truck, but never showed up to school in San Mateo. Blake was  driving north on Skyline Boulevard when he went off the road and down an embankment between Kings Mountain and the 84 Loop. He crashed into a tree.

San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies found his car after noon. The high school senior from Redwood City was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement from Serra High School, educators asked the community to pray for Blake’s parents and his twin brother.

On Tuesday, members of the senior class organized a service for the teen. A GoFundMe page has been set up for anyone who wants to donate to the family.

They’ve already reached their goal, raising more than $20,000. Students were asked to wear solid white, and collared shirts as a sign of solidarity.
