Red flag fire danger warning in effect through 4 p.m. Sunday

A red flag warning covering the North Bay and East Bay hills, the Santa Cruz mountains and other areas over 1,000 feet in elevation will be in effect through 4 p.m. Sunday.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or are expected shortly. Those conditions include a combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures, conducive to extreme fire danger, the National Weather Service said.

The warning, which took effect at 10 p.m. Saturday, covers all three of the Bay Area's highest peaks - Mount Tamalpais, Mount Hamilton and Mount Diablo. Wind gusts on the highest peaks could hit 50 to 60 mph, and humidity during daylight of as low as 9 percent.
