The advancements in technology and affordability have made home surveillance systems a great option for home security. There are several camera options available ranging from cameras that activate when someone rings your doorbell to systems that operate on motion sensors and can be viewed and alert residents via smart phones and computers. The Redwood City Police Department has identified some steps citizens can take to help prevent these package thefts.

• Sign-up for delivery alerts so you can receive real-time updates when you packages are being delivered.

• Contact the police immediately to report any suspicious people or activity

• Utilizing locking mail boxes so mail and packages can be secured after delivery

• If you’re not going to be home to accept your packages, contact a neighbor and have them receive the package for you
