Roof collapses at San Rafael Home Goods in 1st rain of the season
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (KTVU) - A roof partially collapsed at the Home Goods store in the Northgate Mall Tuesday morning in the first storm of the season.
Firefighters believe the roof collapsed because of water on the roof.
The roof collapsed shortly after 7 a.m.
Several employees were in the store working on inventory when a manager noticed the ceiling was drooping, and there was water on the ground.
San Rafael Fire units responded to the scene.
No one was injured, but there was extensive damage inside.
Investigators are still determining the cause but firefighters say it was raining heavily when the roof collapsed. It’s likely that water pulled on the roof, and there may have been a problem with the drainage system.
At this point additional details have not been released.
