San Francisco man says he was 'violently' attacked, left partially blind

A man who says he was attacked in San Francisco's Mission District says he's left partially blind in his right eye and can't hear well out of his left ear.

The man, who was not officially named, said he was recently discharged from a hospital after a traumatic brain injury when a suspect hit him on the back of the head with a metal pipe.

On social media, he expressed his frustration with the city's police department, saying the suspect is known to officers, and he claims the suspect has allegedly attacked other people.

The other side:

The San Francisco Police Department responded to the victim's claims on social media, saying investigators are working on the case and take violent crime "very seriously." They have reached out to the victim.

The incident occurred on Jan. 18 around 2:10 a.m. in the area of 24th and Bryant Streets.

Police said when they arrived, medics were already at the scene treating the victim and eventually transported him to a local hospital.

Witnesses told officers the victim and the suspect were in an argument that turned physical. The suspect fled the scene.

The victim says the suspect didn't take his phone or wallet but did rip off his jewelry and piercings.

No one has been arrested so far, and police did not provide a description of the suspect.

"Violent crime is unacceptable in San Francisco and the SFPD has devoted resources to ensure the public is safe and perpetrators are held accountable. The SFPD is working to make an arrest in this case, at which point we will work closely with our partners in the district [attorney's] office," SFPD officials said in a statement.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the department at (415) 575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411 beginning the message with "SFPD."
