San Jose woman admits to porch thefts, booked on substance charges

Sara Lisa Loretz of San Jose, is suspected of stealing packages from porches in Campbell. She was arrested for posession of a controlled substance on Friday.
CAMPBELL, Calif. (KTVU) - CAMPBELL (KTVU)— Campbell police arrested a San Jose woman this morning after she admitted to a porch package theft in Campbell and other similar thefts in the area. Law enforcement introduced a bait-package program earlier this week.
27-year-old Sara Lisa Loretz was arrested at her home at 9:30 a.m. and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jai according to police.
Police released a video of the November 18 theft that occurred around 4 p.m. In the video, a female suspect can be seen taking a package from the front porch of a Campbell residence. There was no information on the type of vehicle the suspect fled in.
After the video was released, tips came in that led detectives to Loretz. Police are asking other recent victims of package theft in the areas of Campbell, Willow Glen, West San Jose, Los Gatos area to check if they have surveillance video to see if the suspect in those thefts matches Loretz’ description.
Loretz
was booked for possession of a controlled substance and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The package theft case will go before the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office for review. It was not clear when that would happen.
Campbell police offered this advice to prevent package thieves. They’re also baiting potential thieves by placing GPS devices inside packages and distributing them throughout the city.
