Santa Clara vanguard performs at 2019 college national championship event
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KTVU) - The College Football Playoff National Championship is just a day away where Clemson and Alabama will face off at Levi’s Stadium.
Events around the Bay Area are getting fans excited about the big game. Sunday morning, dozens came to San Jose to participate in the Extra Yard 5K.
Santa Clara Vanguard performed at the 5K and some members even participated in the race, “The race was awesome, it was a little wet, but it was awesome,” said trumpet player and runner Joe Lewis.
The race is all part of the championship game weekend, “It’s fun, it’s festive, the band is here and it’s just a big community event it’s fantastic,” said Carol Dennis with Go Far Run Group.
The College Football Playoff Foundation’s main platform is the Extra Yard for Teachers. It’s dedicated to empowering and inspiring teachers and proceeds from the race benefit them, including Butte County educators affected by the Camp Fire.
Rachel Lindsay, an ambassador for the College Football Playoff Foundation encouraged people to get involved and said, “It’s a beautiful thing to get up here early in the morning, it’s a little cold and windy, but you’re doing it for a good cause. You’re getting fit and supporting a good cause at the same time.”
Whether you ran, walked or just cheered everyone on, the event in San Jose is a way for football fans and supporters to participate in the championship weekend.
