SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KTVU) - It was a life-changing moment for Santa Rosa Police Officer Jesse Whitten when he responded to a call of a pregnant woman needing help.
As Officer Whitten spoke with the woman he learned she was looking for a home and family for her unborn baby.
The father of three quickly decided his family would open their heart and home to the baby, according to Santa Rosa Police.
Officer Whitten adopted the baby in a "moving adoption ceremony," according to Santa Rosa Police.
She now joins her three older sisters in the Whitten home.
Earlier this month, Officer Whitten was honored with a department commendation for saving a young woman's life in June.
According to Santa Rosa Police, he stayed calm during an intense situation and ultimately stopped the young woman from harming herself farther. He was credited with saving a life in that incident.
