Soldier goes AWOL, steals Humvee
HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (KTVU) - A soldier who went AWOL from a base in Southern Monterey County on Tuesday was found in San Mateo County.
The soldier reportedly left Fort Hunter Liggett in a stolen military Humvee Tuesday morning. According to the Register Pajaronian newspaper, he was tracked by cell phone records to Castle Rock State Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Around 6 p.m. California Highway Patrol stopped the Humvee along Highway 92 near Half Moon Bay. The soldier was taken into custody.
The soldier was reportedly upset about a recent demotion.
