Suspicious package prompts police activity near St. Luke's Hospital

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) -- Authorities were urging workers and visitors at St. Luke's Hospital to remain inside the building while police conduct an investigation in the area.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area at Valencia Street and Cesar Chavez because of the ongoing police activity. It was not immediately clear what prompted the police response.

San Francisco firefighters tweeted about the incident. A spokesperson for San Francisco police said the hospital was not on lockdown but urged those inside to shelter in place.
